Alert Logic blazes a leading cloud security path

Alert Logic is positioned as a security leader in the industry, with a unique focus on cloud.   A number of recent announcements have reinforced that leadership position with the publication of the State of Cloud Security Report and the distinction of having their services selected to protect the infrastructure of RigNet, a leading global provider of managed remote communications to the energy industry.  Very recently the company announced a new web application firewall (WAF) was now available on Amazon Web Services, and they also reported strong Q3 2013 growth.  This is a massive release of announcements and news from a leading security company that is further notable because the security sector is one of the hottest technology sectors in the business.

New AWS Products

.

Alert Logic’s new WAF, Web Security Manager was recently announced for availability on Amazon Web Services (AWS).  The comprehensive suite of security and compliance solutions is a complete, mature SaaS-based security solution that is seeing massive growth and entails Threat Manager and Log Manager components.  One of the most compelling features about Web Security Manager is that the product is auto-scaling, meaning that as cloud environments are brought into the fold, security and compliance can be instantly integrated.  In a briefing with Alert Logic Chief Strategy Office and Co-Founder Misha Govshteyn, we discussed the various practical lab, deployment, and cloud scenarios where this ability would produce the absolute best in cloud environment security standards.

“Alert Logic makes available a full enterprise-ready suite of Security-as-a-Service solutions built for the cloud,” said Misha Govshteyn, chief strategy officer & co-founder at Alert Logic. “Now enterprises with cloud-enabled IT infrastructures can leverage all of our cloud-based web security & compliance solutions engineered for easy implementation through AWS.”

The service is also a component of AWS’s newly-announced AWS Activate package for startups, as one of only three third-party providers participating in the platform.  So this technology is available at several levels.

RigNet – Latest Major Company Announcement

.

This tremendous business value is being realized throughout the market.  So it comes as no surprise that a leading company such as RigNet has emerged as a newly announced client for Alert Logic.  RigNet provides a broad range of remote managed communications systems, integration and collaborative applications that are centered on a specialized market within the energy industry.  Alert Logic will be leveraging their Threat Manager and ActiveWatch services to actively detect suspicious network behaviors and enable RigNet to respond quicker to prevent data breaches.  We all know that energy is a constant cyber-crime target and the requirements on computing alone are incredible, and security goes along with that.

State of Cloud Security Report

.

Alert Logic, sees much work to be done, as evidenced in the findings of its report “State of Cloud Security”.  The report is focused specifically on the aforementioned energy sector and is built off a six-month study of customer data.  What they found was an increasing threat from a number of familiar realms.  The issue however is very pressing in the energy industry, as there is a great deal of proprietary and highly confidential information at hand.  Threats come into the picture from BYOD, SCADA systems, contractor access, APTs, and brute force attacks.  A couple of the bigger points found in the report:

  • 67 percent of energy companies experienced brute force attacks, versus 34% of entire customer set.
  • 61 percent of energy companies experienced malware/botnet infiltration attacks, versus 13% of entire customer set.

As the report illustrates, the result of a breach on an energy asset could be catastrophic on a global scale.  Therefore the protection afforded through Alert Logic is as critical a priority as can be, as it is designed to protect against network anomalies, web application attacks, behavior variance, and malware.

A Leading Cloud Security Path

.

We featured Alert Logic’s CEO Gray Hall about a year ago on our CEO Series.

Alert Logic CEO Gray Hall shares that as we are entering a state of phenomenal cloud growth, an era of critical security has emerged as we are also facing an era of more critical apps. Cloud computing is increasingly considered quite simply as compute capacity, and it is a long time coming. Hall has been very vocal in stating that Security is Key to the Growth of the Cloud. The industries of cloud, hosting and security, have the opportunity to provide better IT security solutions in the cloud than enterprises can implement inside their own data centers.

There is little doubt that Alert Logic is well on that trajectory Hall spoke about a year ago.  They have done so by delivering tremendous business and operational value, particularly in cloud environments where security can otherwise get a little crazy.  They are doing a phenomenal job of comprehensively addressing the greatest of cloud adoption concerns in security with incredibly innovative and readily available products.
