Egnyte introduces mobile apps to its secure enterprise file sharing platform

The BYOD revolution is brought up all the time among other things, as a security issue. How should the enterprise put mobile solutions into employee’s hands and be sure the organization is properly protecting assets? Mobile Device Management is one piece of the puzzle. Protecting data is another and Egnyte has a new solution for easy and secure access that could solve problems mobility introduces that are facing many organizations. Egnyte has cut its teeth with its innovative enterprise storage products. What they’ve introduced now is the availability of iOS and Android apps that make secure file access easy, and a far easier task for the enterprise.

Secure, Easy File Access

The platform creates alllows companies to create and manage a secure perimeter that covers in between the user’s mobile devices and files that are shared at home in the enterprise and behind the firewall. The product is fully integrated with Storage Connect, a product they launched last month provides secure remote access to on-premise storage. The Storage Connect platform is a remote access solution that does not require a VPN, and allows users to securely utilize point-to-point file access and sharing, without passing through the cloud. Performance has been designed into the platform, and as described in a briefing with CEO and Founder Vineet Jain, the real-world results have been incredible. It brings together the most sought after flexible cloud behaviors and the security/performance profile of on-site storage. Sometimes files are too sensitive to put in any cloud, and in the age of surveillance, it’s a concern on a lot of people’s minds. Now with this mobility piece, it means a whole world of secure mobile file access opportunities are unlocked and ready for tablets, phones, and probably even those things in-between.

“Access to files located in existing, on-premises storage from a mobile device has always been the last mile in reaping BYOD productivity, “ said Egnyte CEO and Founder Vineet Jain. “Our new mobile apps not only deliver that last mile of user access, but also create a secure, end-to-end perimeter where files from on-premises storage are encrypted on the mobile device and can be remotely wiped in case the device is lost or stolen.”

Mobile Opportunity

The playing field is huge, with more and more people accessing corporate data with personal mobile devices than ever before, and that trend not having an end in sight. Files that are put into cloud systems are targets and susceptible to attacks from anywhere, whether they are at rest, in transport, or temporarily stored on a user’s device – those are major risks that quite frankly many may find unacceptable. Egnyte’s platform isn’t a cloud storage product, but rather a sophisticated system based on a series of password secured and permissions-driven security measures, fully integrated with your native security environment.

Enterprise Features Throughout

Egnyte also has enterprise features throughout with access, search, bookmarking and management of files and folders, integrated as mentioned with Storage Connect, but also available on any mobile device through its new mobile apps. The platform is geared for full enterprise sharing as well, supporting rapid, easy sharing through web links and folder sharing. Egnyte also features a Device Control Suite that can execute policies like local file encryption, remote wiping, certificate-based configuration, two-factor login, and permission controls.

Egnyte has over 30,000 businesses using their products for file-sharing needs.  Check out Egnyte for more, their apps are free to download on Google Play, Apple’s App Store, Amazon Kindle, and Nook versions are out there too.
