The truth about PlayStation 4 console’s 500GB of storage

Thinking of buying the new Sony PlayStation 4 for that special someone this holiday season? A hidden fact is that the already small 500GB hard drive in the next-generation PlayStation 4 will only provide around 400GB of actual storage. You know, the kind of storage you’ll be able to use.

“Sony has restricted access to some of the storage with a portion of a hard drive inaccessible, and 92GB set aside for what’s thought to be the PlayStation 4′s firmware,” reports Geeky Gadgets.

Sure, there’s a user fix that allows you to upgrade the 500GB with a larger storage capacity or even faster performance via a solid state disk (SSD), but with either case you’ll need to shell out a couple hundred more bucks.  With games expected to take up between 30-40GB per game, that roughly caps your total storage space to between 10-13 games.

With significantly more storage potential, the 15.6-inch P35K Ultrablade gaming laptop with the latest 4th Gen Intel CoreTM i7 Processor is taking gaming laptops to a whole new level. A level that has never been reached, because well, gaming laptops have never been this light. The P35K is just 21mm thin and weighing ~2.16 kg, houses a powerful GTX 765M (3DMark advantage score exceeding P17,800 with GIGABYTE Ultra Boost technology). The Ultrablade has unlimited storage capacity with a quad-storage system that supports up to 3TB of storage. Get to gaming folks.

New My Cloud for easier and secure consumer storage

Indeed, the personal cloud market is becoming increasingly important for home entertainment.  Western Digital announced earlier this week its new My Cloud family of personal cloud solutions. The play is simple: offer a complete solution for users to organize, centralize and secure digital content from all of their computers and mobile devices and access those files from any device. This can be a huge win for families that are wanting to consolidate their devices into one personal and secure cloud. There is no monthly fee, and the end user is in complete control of their personal data.

In other Western Digital news, WD announced today the 1 TB portable hard drive for Mac users available in a thin all-aluminum enclosure. Matching the form factors of both the MacBook and MacBook Air, the ultra-slim design of My Passport Air complements both with an all-aluminum exterior to give enhanced protection to the drive and its protected contents. Out of the box compatible with Mac computers, the 1TB portable storage includes Time Machine.
