Trion Worlds unveils voxel-based Trove, modeled in line with Minecraft

Confirming the rumors in recent days, Trion Worlds, creator of the MMO Rift and Defiance, has officially announced Trove, a free to play online adventure RPG set in a world similar to that of Minecraft, which we can explore freely in search of quests, treasures and enemies to face. Anyone wishing to join the alpha testing, can do so by visiting the official website.

So what is Trove, exactly? Massively had an interview with Trion CEO Scott Hartsman and as per him “Trove is a multiplayer universe of worlds where creation, destruction, and adventure go hand-in-hand. It’s a sandbox, an RPG, a toolset, a public space, a private space, a free-to-play experience.”

Trion Worlds described Trove as “an open-ended voxel adventure through countless realms filled with quests, chests, and enemies great and small.” Players can explore and create buildable and destructible worlds much like with Minecraft, whose world consists entirely of bricks.

“Our vision with Trove was simple: create a game that generates exciting new worlds on a regular basis, has free-form exploration that makes going through a mountain as rewarding as going over it and enables community contributions to significantly impact the game,” says the Trove website.

Developers call the game as multiplayer universe of an infinite number of worlds, in which users can combined construction, destruction, and adventure. It started as a hobby in which two programmers were created Minecraft like free-to-play MMO. After a couple months of use, they have received approval for full-scale development.

The game will not be a single universe: every adventure unfold in its own separate little world, whether it be public or open to friends only.  In the first case, the system will generate it on the basis of a common task. Developers are compared with the mechanics of Diablo, where each new race is a bit different from the previous parts, but retains the main goal. So far, Trove currently accommodates 60 players, but in the future, developers are planning to increase this figure to 100.

Two things still remain constant within the game: the character and the little plot of land, which can equip to your liking. Details about the characters are still not disclosure by the company. They say only that the traditional elements of RPG, such as levels, loot and the equipment will remain in place. In addition, the characters will be able to simultaneously combine any classes – if you want you can even learn all the skills and abilities available in the game.

Trion Worlds promise that adventure and interaction with the changing world will be very closely intertwined like an example of lead covered with sand entrance to the cave, which is necessary to dig out. Trove wants to integrate its creation and destruction within the adventuring experience proper. Trion is making Trove a game first and foremost with a powerful toolset second.

“For instance, you might be trying to get to a dungeon that your friends told you about. However, on this particular world you find that the dungeon’s entrance is covered by a hill. No worries; you can put down your sword and pick up your shovel for a little digging. Uncover the doorway and off you go into the scary unknown,” explains Massively in their review.

Typical RPG elements such as character development, assembling equipment and completing quests will be developed on the model of exploration similar to that found in Minecraft. Both surface and underground world will be generated randomly, so that they will fell like completely unique.

Trion World’s Defiance is part of the MMO game lineup available for PC, Xbox360, and PS3. Defiance provides a nice shooter backdrop, the game has presented as a bit of a social failure at a mechanical level.

Trion launched the official website of the game, in which you can fill out an application for admission to the alpha testing, where you will also find the first pictures of Trove and the information on it. The service also appeared Reddit thread, in which Trion Worlds studio staff answer questions about their latest project. The release date and the list of platforms on which appears Trove will appear is still unknown.
