Minecraft hits 100 million registered users milestone, Minecraft movie in development

minecraft-blockMinecraft is definitely a game that has the ability to attract players of all ages, and since its inception has found a phenomena of popularity. It became a global phenomenon and the community now has more than 100 million registered players! Markus Persson, the founder of the game, announced last week on Twitter that the world of Minecraft was now inhabited by over 100 million players. This figure does not include people who use the cracked version of the game, so we can assume that there are many more.

The number, however, is not necessarily equivalent to the sum of the sales on the various platforms, because on the PC and Mac, there is also a free demo available that requires a registration. Such registrations are likely to be included in the above number. On the PC, it should now give around 14.3 million buyers, tens of millions would have resorted to mobile version, ten million published for Xbox 360 version and over one million for the last PS3 version.

After touching off a wave of sandbox building games and the early access movement, the wildly popular game has made its way to other platforms, including Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and mobile. Also good news for new owners of Xbox One, a version will soon be available.

To play Minecraft, you must first register on the website. Users then have the opportunity to play free or purchase a full version demo. Markus Persson had already announced that the game had surpassed 14 million copies sold in early February, which translate to approximately 20,000 copies are sold each day,

Live-action film by Warner Bros.

Some months ago, announcing a film about a world with building blocks might have sounded crazy. But after the success of “The Lego Movie” studies began to understand that if you have the right script, you can make a tape of virtually anything.

Last week, the creator of Minecraft, Markus Persson announced on Twitter to seal a deal with Warner Brothers to make a film based on the hit video game construction.

“Someone is trying leak the fact that we’re working with Warner Brothers on a potential Minecraft Movie. I wanted to be the leak!” he tweeted, adding that he would have preferred to comment when 100% were fact specific, but the leaks put him in trouble. This revelation by Persson explains his irritation when the group reported that independent production rocketjump was raising funds to make a movie based on the video game.

Persson seems very excited about it and in fact, about a month ago, the company closed a part Kickstarter project that had begun to bring to the big screen a movie out of Minecraft. Although it is surely much more risky to work with a giant like Warner and Persson is aware of this, it is also a fact that Mojang now have more resources and facilities to develop this project that would have gotten through crowdfunding.

In fact, the website Deadline announced that WB not only acquired the rights to Minecraft, but producer Roy Lee, who was behind it Lego Movie will also be in charge of the project through his company, Vertigo Entertainment.

The upcoming movie should whet the already blazing interest in the game, which has been published for every conceivable media, including game consoles and PlayStation versions on numerous mobile platforms including iOS and Android.
