Red Hat CEO Lee Congdon Live In theCUBE At Splunk.conf 2014

Open source has already won the enterprise, and we’ll continue to see use cases expanding into new environments, according to Red Hat, Inc. CIO Lee Congdon. During a live interview at this week’s Splunk conference, Congdon explains the reasons behind open source’s enterprise victory. he feels open source is best suited for the enterprise, highlighting that as communities come together, people manage to solve their business issues, support each other, and gain recognition from peers and vendors.

“Information Technology (IT) is really the way businesses are going to be run in the future,” Congdon predicts, but warns that it will still take some time for the organization of enterprises to evolve around this concept. Noting the industry’s shift from an industrial society to an information-based culture, he says of his market, “we’re all in an information business now.”

Congdon further expounds the changing role of IT within the enterprise, along with the department’s need to focus on moving business ahead, not just solving IT crises. The executive also shares his experiences with Splunk.
