What will the next wave of enterprise storage look like? Catalogic Software offers a peek into the future with its recently launched Copy Data Management Software Platform (CDMSP). The update represents the future because it allows companies to leverage copies to drive business value, according to Ed Walsh, CEO of Catalogic Software. By providing visibility into snapshots using catalog technology, Catalogic Software hopes to enable companies to run analytics and tests on the freshest copy possible of high-performance environments.

The CDMSP does not actually make copies but allows its customers to leverage copies on “an agent-less platform,” explained Walsh during his live interview with theCUBE co-hosts John Furrier and Dave Vellante at IBM’s annual Big Data conference, Insight. The CDMSP’s functionality, which allows mount points to be refreshed as often as necessary, means that test developers doesn’t have to be an expensive environment. It’s as simple as point-and-click to take a copy of “today’s data” and run DevOps on existing enterprise storage, Walsh explained.

From a Big Data perspective, the CDMSP’s writable snapshots mean that developers have access to extremely fresh data. With snapshots taken as recently as an hour prior, analysis can be conducted accurately, allowing for agile development and rapid releases to business units.

Companies using the CDMSP save about 51 percent of overall backup costs, Walsh said. When “all of a sudden” tape becomes archive, it provides huge value to the overall enterprise, he added.
