Google announcements about its App Engine, Container Engine, and Google Interconnect suggest it is pursuing both developers and enterprises in the cloud space, said John Furrier, theCUBE co-host. Google also used its Cloud Platform Live conference to highlight the transformation of containers, added co-host Jeff Frick, citing that Google considers Docker to be as powerful a technology as X86, Linux, and Public Cloud.

To developers, the message is clear: Google wants to make your life easier. Google comes from a culture of continuous innovation and has a massive portfolio of applications. “I don’t think they’re scared,” commented Furrier, adding that Google wasn’t stealthy about its course of action: It’s plan is to win the developers. “It won’t be hard for them to on-board developers at scale and then provide the convenience of a massive back-end operation,” he added.

Frick also mentioned that Google Cloud Platform’s new VP, Brian Stevens, emphasized that Google’s 2015 strategic objectives are “reliability and user convenience.” A former Red Hat, Inc. employee, Stevens is used to running with the open source crowd, which Furrier pointed out Google is a member.

Through projects like Kubernetes and promoting openness in its business processes, Google may be able to overcome the “privacy and trust issue” the public has with Google, said Furrier. “People are fearful of Google on the consumer side,” he explained. But by keeping its events open and maintaining candid communication, Furrier suggested that Google can prove that it wants to share its knowledge.
