Android Lollipop now rolling out to Nexus devices –check if yours is on the list

Nine days ago Google announced it was rolling out Lollipop to Nexus devices. Now, finally, it has arrived.

A tweet on the official Android Twitter account, announced that Lollipop will soon be available on most Nexus devices. The official Nexus forums provided a bit more detail stating that the over-the-air (OTA) update will be available for the Wi-Fi Nexus7s, Nexus 5 and Nexus 10 while Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 will receive minor updates to address bugs.

The over-the-air update for Lollipop is now starting! The update is starting for these devices:

  • Nexus 6: Minor update to address bugs
  • Nexus 9: Minor update to address bugs
  • Nexus 5: Update from KitKat to Lollipop
  • Nexus 7 WiFi (2012 & 2013): Update from KitKat to Lollipop
  • Nexus 10: Update from KitKat to Lollipop

It will also be put up on Android Open Source Project (AOSP).

Note: The OTA update for 3G/LTE versions of the Nexus 7 2012 and 2013 have not yet started, nor have they started for the Nexus 4!

For users not wanting to install the non-destructive OTA Lollipop update, Google has made the official Android Lollipop factory images available. CNET has a handy guide on how to update your Nexus device to Lollipop yourself.

Lollipop is Android’s biggest user interface revamp since Ice Cream Sandwich with Material Design bringing more color and depth to Android and Google apps and the interface as a whole. Other exciting features are things like screen pinning, a new notification tray and improvements to the lock screen. Ars Technica has done a thorough review of Android 5.0 Lollipop.
