The newest version of Android, 5.0 or Lollipop, is now making its way to compatible devices. Some Android users may be hesitant in updating to Google’s latest mobile operating system for fear of their device being rendered unusable because of early bugs. But there are some awesome new features on Lollipop that might change their minds about updating.

Revised Quick Settings

The Quick Settings allow you to easily turn phone functions on or off, as well as see the most recent notifications. Previous native versions of Android did not have built-in controls for the Flashlight, hotspot, screen rotation and screen control. With Lollipop, these controls are much easier to access, with a quick pull down from the top of the screen (similar to the iPhone’s quick menu via pulling up from the bottom of the screen).  Depending on the smartphone brand you are using, some of the features may already be available for some users.

Tap and Go

You can set up your new Android Lollipop device in just a few seconds by tapping it to your old, NFC-enabled Android device. Also, you can sync all your apps from your old Android device to Google Play and sync your new device to Google Play, so everything will be available immediately on the new device.

Priority mode

You can now filter the notifications you receive throughout the day with Priority mode. You can choose which notifications and contacts are allowed through, and even choose to ignore messages and phone calls when you are busy with others tasks on your phone.

Guest user

There will come a time when you have to let one of your friends or family member use your device for a quick call or a video game. The problem is, there are some things that you don’t want others to be able to access, such as photos, videos or even apps. Lollipop introduces Guest Mode, which allows you to limit the information guests can access. That way you can maintain privacy and still feel comfortable sharing your handset.

Trusted places

We can’t deny the purpose of passwords for various apps and services, place but there are times we wish we could just skip the login process. Lollipop introduces Trusted Places, a feature that allows you to automatically do away with passwords and passcodes when you are using a trusted Wi-Fi connection.

Battery settings

With Android Lollipop, you no longer have to guess how much longer their battery will last, or how long you need to charge up before unplugging. When you plug your phone, the home screen tells you the time until the device is fully charged. As for the usage, you’ll be presented with a small graph showing you how long your battery will last before it needs charging. There’s also a new battery-saving feature that extends your battery life up to 90 minutes.

Multiple device compatibility

Lollipop will be compatible for use on Android devices with varying screen sizes, spanning wearable tech, smartphones, tablets, televisions, and even cars. Google stated that the OS has been designed to be flexible enough to work on any device and customizable enough to fit user needs.
