Newest iPhone rumors: 3D display, iOS 9 features

What will the next iPhone look like, and when will it be released? Will Apple release two iPhones this year? What new features will the new iPhone come with? And will it be something revolutionary, or will Apple just be enhancing its existing features?

Those are just some of the questions surrounding the next iPhone. But we’ll likely have to wait a few more months to see reliable “leaked photos” of the next iPhone. And we can expect that Apple will be announcing its release around September, when the iPhone maker should make the newest handset immediately available to consumers.

So what do we have to look forward to come September? A bigger iPhone? An improved camera? More security features? And what will it be called?

iPhone 7? or 6S? or 6S mini?

According to reports, despite the success of the bigger iPhones, Apple is working on a smaller version of the iPhone 6 for people with dainty hands or those who just don’t fancy a bigger device. So this year we could be seeing three iPhones; an iPhone 6S mini, which will cost less than the iPhone 6, as well as an iPhone 6S and an iPhone 6S Plus, if Apple sticks with its bigger iPhones. Some are calling the upcoming device the iPhone 7, but if we know Apple, it will probably stick to the “S” nomenclature for this year’s release.

Enhanced Touch ID

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released a new report revealing that the next iPhone will get an upgraded finger sensor. According to the new report, shipment of Touch ID module for 2015 is up by 77 percent year-over-year and the improved version will deliver more reliable fingerprint reads and offer better security as Apple continues to push with Apple Pay.

No more cracked screens

Apple has secured the patent for a “protective mechanism for an electronic device” that would make the device flip on its back when it is falling to avoid landing on its screen. If Apple has perfected this technology, we could be seeing this implemented in the new iPhone, which means fanbois would no longer have to worry about dropping their iPhones and having their hearts broken when the screen cracks.

3D display and GUI

Apple has secured a patent for touch-free, motion-sensing gestures within 3D graphical user interface concepts. It’s said to be working on a 3D display technology that doesn’t require users to wear 3D glasses.

LiquidMetal chassis

Since before the iPhone 5 was released, there have been rumors that Apple will be utilizing LiquidMetal or metallic glass casing for its chassis, as the material is stronger than aluminum. Apple was bombarded with ridicule when “bendgate” surfaced, and this may be the company’s answer to avoid the same disastrous results for its next iPhone.

Same-old iSight

There were rumors that the next iPhone would have an upgraded iSight camera akin to DSLR cameras, but new reports have since surfaced stating that Apple will stick to the 8MP iSight camera it has been using since the iPhone 4S.

iOS 9

Though it is expected that more features will be introduced with the new iOS, Apple is said to be focusing on under-the-hood improvements, such as stability and optimization for iOS 9. This means we can expect the next iOS to make our iDevices run faster. Also, users should not have to resort to deleting photos and videos because the size of the upgrade will be manageable.
