HTC One M9 hits shelves; here’s what you need to know
If you’re an HTC Corp. fan and have long waited for the company’s next flagship smartphone, the One M9, wait no more. The company announced that the device will go on sale today at midnight or at 12 AM on March 27, 2015. The HTC One M9’s price starts at $649 and will be available on the following U.S. carriers: AT&T, Inc., T-Mobile USA, Inc., Sprint Corp. and Verizon Communications, Inc.
In the U.K., network carrier Three announced that the HTC One M9 is now ready for pre-order and will ship by next week. Three is also offering a number of contracts that would make it easier for consumers to own the device, such as an introductory price of £39 per month, with an upfront payment of £19 and comes with a 1GB worth of 4G data, as well as unlimited calls and SMS. Other UK carriers, such as EE UK, Vodafone UK and O2 UK, will also be offering the HTC One M9.
Before the HTC One M9 goes on sale tonight, here are just some tidbits you might want to learn about to help you decide if this is the right phone for you.
Full specifications
It features a 5-inch Super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen display with 1080×1920 pixels, ~441 ppi pixel density and Corning Gorilla Glass 4, and it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa core 64-bit, 4 x 2.0GHz + 4 x 1.5GHz, Adreno 430 GPU, and has an internal memory of 32GB, which can be upgraded to up to 2TB with a microSD and 3GB RAM.
It has a 20MP primary camera with dual-LED flash with features such as automatic simultaneous video and image recording, geo-tagging, face/smile detection, HDR, panorama and a 4MP HTC Ultra Pixel front camera. For connectivity, it offers Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, hotspot, Bluetooth 4.1, A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC, infrared and microUSB 2.0.
Sensors include ambient light, proximity, accelerometer, compass, gyro, magnetic and a Sensor Hub. For the battery, it features a non-removable Li-Po 2840 mAh battery that can last up to 391 hours on standby, 25 hours and 20 minutes talk time on 2G, or up to 21 hours and 50 minutes on 3G. It has a Quick Charge feature that charges to up to 60 percent in just 30 minutes. It is available in Gunmetal Gray, Amber Gold, Silver/Rose Gold, Gold/Pink colors and runs Android 5.0 with HTC Sense.
For customization options, it has a built-in HTC Themes app that lets you change the look and feel of your phone using your favorite photo or online image. The HTC Themes app picks colors from the photo and applies the theme you create to your wallpaper, icons and more to make everything blend well together.
Uh Oh Protection
Admit it, you are clumsy as hell and you have probably dropped your device numerous times, causing multiple dents, scuffs, scratches, or even a cracked screen.
Good news! If you purchase the HTC One M9, you get one free phone replacement within the first 12 months after you purchase it. Aptly named Uh Oh Protection, it covers a cracked screen, water damage and even transfers with the phone if you switch carriers. New apps on Google Play
HTC recently published new apps on Google Play that would make owning an HTC One M9 more interesting. The HTC BoomSound Connect app allows users to connect to AllPlay speakers to setup its Wi-Fi and choose/play highest quality music and share multiple users’ songs into a playlist.
HTC Tasks is a tool that helps you get organized by allowing you to create new tasks and to-do lists, sync tasks from multiple accounts and search tasks and lists.
HTC Connect is an app designed to allow users to effortlessly stream music, photos and videos from your HTC phone to TVs and audio systems by swiping up using three fingers on any screen, turning your phone into the ultimate multimedia player. The app is compatible with AllPlay, Blackfire, Bluetooth, DLNA and Miracast, delivering high-quality playback on connected devices for your home and car.
