Next iPhone imagined: an ultra-thin 4 inch ‘iPhone Air’
The next iteration of Apple’s popular iPhone, due out in September, may be a 4 inch iPhone 6c – to replace the outgoing iPhone 5c – or an all-new iPhone 7; or, depending on which rumors you believe, the Cupertino-based technology giant could unveil two new models, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
While every Apple fan and industry watcher is dying to know what the company’s plans for the new iPhone entail, some take matters into their own hands and create fantastical concepts based on what they think future iPhones will look like.
Earlier this week we reported on iPhone 7 concept images created by renowned German designer Martin Hajek.
Now, the team at SET Solution has come up with its own concept for the next iPhone; this time an ‘iPhone Air’, a 4 inch iPhone depicted in their “iPhone Air TV Ad 2015.” (via Cult of Mac)
Based on the original television advertisement for the 6.1 millimeters thin iPad Air 2, the video imagines an even thinner ‘iPhone Air’ at just 4.3 millimeters thick – thinner even than Apple’s current iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models at 6.9 millimeters and 7.1 millimeters respectively.
Although similar in design to the current iPhone 6 models, the iPhone Air is smaller in size – only 122.7 millimeters high and 56.9 millimeters wide – and features a 4 inch screen, making it a likely candidate as a replacement for the iPhone 5c.
The iPhone Air imagined by SET Solution also features an HD screen; unlikely considering that all of Apple’s new devices feature the company’s proprietary Retina display.
Earlier this month rumors surfaced that Apple will release a new 4 inch iPhone in September based on a large order for camera sensors – intended specifically for use in a 4 inch model – the iPhone maker allegedly placed with Sony, Corp., a major supplier of camera technology to the mobile industry.
On Wednesday, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo issued a note to investors in which he reiterated his earlier opinion that Apple will not release a 4 inch iPhone this year. Instead, said Kuo, Apple will stick to two screen sizes, the same 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches that have made the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus so popular with consumers worldwide.
