Microsoft’s digital assistant, Cortana, will play a unique part on Lenovo Group Ltd’s PCs and tablets, according to a recent announcement during the Chinese computer manufacturer’s Tech World event held in Beijing, China. Using what Lenovo has called the REACHit service, Cortana in Windows 10 will be able to search for content in non-Microsoft services, including Google Drive, Box, Dropbox, and also in OneDrive, as well as across various email clients.
In a blog post Lenovo said of the new partnership, “This deep, exclusive platform integration gives Cortana a much larger inventory of information to search, opening up an entirely new level of contextual search and giving users the most comprehensive, seamless and natural way to find their personal digital content.”
In a world where content is stored on multiple devices, Cortana and REACHit should prove to make life a little easier. Not only will the service help users to find information stored in various Clouds, but it will work between multiple Lenovo machines and devices that are part of your REACHit account.
Microsoft is definitely spreading the net with Cortana, the “friend” in need, as Mark Cohen, vice president, Ecosystem and Cloud Services for Lenovo put it. With the news last week that the digital assistant is coming to iPhone and Android, it seems that “Cortana everywhere” is a slogan fast becoming a reality.
There will be a REACHit beta version when Windows 10 launches later this year, reportedly in July, and launched for general availability sometime in the fall. You can join the REACHit beta program by making a request here.
