Apple announces iOS 9, contextually aware and Proactive Siri | #WWDC15
Apple today announced iOS 9, the next version of its popular mobile operating system. iOS 9, while bringing improved battery life, performance and security, also brings more intelligence to Siri and Search.
In iOS 9, Siri has been revamped to be more intelligent and features a new user interface similar to that found on Apple Watch. iOS 9 also introduces Apple’s predictive digital assistant app, Proactive.
With Proactive, Siri is contextually aware and can offer a user content and information based on time and place. For example, if a user runs every morning, Siri can suggest music to listen to as soon as the user connects his/her earphones to their iPhone. If a user is in the car and usually listens to an audiobook or podcast instead of music, Siri can suggest either option.
If a user receives a call from a number not in their address book already, Siri is now able to search through the user’s email to identify the number and caller and display the information.
In iOS 9, Apple has redesigned the Spotlight Search window to surface frequently used apps and contacts, one-tap links to nearby locations and display breaking news stories.
A new Search API brings deep linking into apps to surface content from third-party apps.
With a focus on security and privacy, the new Search and Siri functionality is anonymous and does not use a user’s Apple ID; instead it uses a randomized identifier and is not linked to other Apple services or shared with third parties. Apple says users are in control of their content and data.
