Smart wine bottles battle counterfeit lushes

This week’s Smart Living roundup features a smart wine bottle, a lamp that helps you sleep, a partnership for smarter homes in Israel and an Internet remote for your home.

Battling counterfeit wine

China is said to be one of the top 10 wine producers in the world, but counterfeit specialist Nick Bartman claims that 70 percent of wines sold in the country are fraudulent. To battle fake wines, Thin Film Electronics ASA (Thinfilm) has announced a partnership with global authentication company G World Group (G World). The partnership will unveil the industry’s first “smart wine bottle” at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2015, which will take place in Shanghai, China, from July 15-17, 2015.

The G World system will also deliver on the new Free Trade Agreement initiatives between Australia and China, facilitating trade between the two countries by providing a transparent and accountable system for producers, governments and consumers.

A field trial will be conducted thanks to a collaboration with Ferngrove Wine Group, a Chinese-owned, Western Australia premium wine company.

“Winemakers and retailers currently are in need of a cost-effective and scalable means to track and confirm the authenticity of individual wine bottles across the supply chain. This gap in the current solution set gives counterfeiters an upper hand,” said Thinfilm Chief Commercial Officer Kai Leppänen. “At Mobile World Congress Shanghai, we’re excited to show the industry how smart technology can provide an authentic solution and fulfill this consumer need.”

Earlier this year, Thinfilm also announced a smart bottle partnership with Diageo plc, which makes the famous Johnnie Walker Blue Label brand. This partnership aims to deliver more information about the product, such as if the bottle has even been opened or tampered with.

Luzi Smart Lamp

Luzi Smart LampFalling asleep may be as simple as turning on a lamp, that is if you are using one like the Luzi Smart Lamp.

The Luzi Smart Lamp is described as an advanced sleep system that features therapeutic light and personalized sounds to help you fall asleep. With the use of the Luzi Sleep App, you can setup Luzi Smart Lamp to play music that helps you fall asleep while being shown a sequence of lights that increases the production of melatonin, the body’s natural sleep chemical. It also offers Relevant Recommendations on how you can sleep better, as well as guided meditation to help you relax.

The Luzi Smart Lamp also features a customizable screen that displays the time, date, temperature and weather, to name a few options. It has four USB ports so you can charge your mobile devices while you sleep; an integrated watch stand so you can charge your Apple Watch; and an optional wireless charging base for compatible devices.

The Luzi Smart Lamp is currently raising $50,000 on Indiegogo, Inc.

Icontrol to power Israel’s Bezeq

Icontrol Networks, Inc. announced that it will be powering Bhome, a smart home offering from one of Israel’s leading telecommunications company, Bezeq International Ltd.

Bhome is based on Icontrol’s Piper product, which is a self-install, Wi-Fi-enabled All-In-One Home Security System that combines panoramic video, Z-Wave home automation and environmental sensors with mobile control. This partnership marks the first time Piper is being deployed as a platform for a service provider solution, highlighting its flexibility as both a B2C and B2B product.

“This is just the beginning of the smart home innovation we’ll bring Israeli residents with Bhome,” said Ran Guron, deputy CEO of Bezeq. “In the next several years, we will enhance the service with additional features, new device compatibility, and may even expand to new commercial and municipal markets. We chose to work with Icontrol because of the company’s trusted, extensible network, which will let us bring Bhome to the next level seamlessly.”

Bezeq will also be showcasing Bhome in the Netanya Ikea, as well as feature a smart home model on the company’s headquarters in Tel Aviv where Ikea furnitures and other Israeli-made smart home devices will be featured.

Ivan Internet Remote

Ivan RemoteIvan is a small device, about the size of a deck of cards, that acts as a home security system, as well as a remote for other Internet connected devices.

As a security system, it features a passive Infrared (PiR) movement detector that senses body heat to determine whether there is a home intruder, instead of using a motion sensing camera that can easily be triggered by movements from insects or pets. It also has a panic button, which immediately sends an email or text to predetermined contacts and can even tweet that something is wrong. It has a “Heart Beat” that lets the control panel, which is connected to the Cloud, know whether your Ivan is still working or not.

The Ivan also features nine other buttons, aside from the panic button, which can be configured to a user’s preference so Internet-connected devices, such as smart lights, can be controlled using the device. The Ivan uses a rechargeable battery that sends a notification to a user’s smartphone when its battery is running low. Because it is wireless you can put Ivan anywhere in your home so you can easily reach it in case of an emergency or when you quickly need to change the settings of your smart thermostat or turn off your lights.

You can fund Ivan on Indiegogo.
