Kamcord Inc. already allows users to record and share videos of their mobile gameplay, but now the company is announcing the launch of full mobile game livestreaming capabilities.
As recording software, Kamcord boasts more than 1 million registered user profiles and over 50 million videos shared. In total, the service can record and share video from over 600 mobile games.
Stepping into livestreaming opens up a whole new marketplace for Kamcord and its users. Which, while dominated by sites such as YouTube and Twitch, has a lot more console and PC players streaming than mobile. Kamcord continues to grow having raised $15 million in Series B funding in December, 2014 putting the total invested at $25 million.
The livestreaming software works with iOS, Android, and PC. It currently requires allows the streamer to hook a phone or tablet up to a computer and livestream with common software such as OBS or XSplit. The company plans to appeal to mobile gamers better in the future by giving Android devices the ability to stream directly—however, it is not possible to provide this functionality to iOS users.
According to Kamcord’s Head of Partnerships, Eric Edelman, current-gen mobile game players and streamers are frustrated “because mobile games are treated as a second-class citizen on existing platforms.”
He added, “Even though there’s a huge demand for mobile gaming content, advertisers and the platforms themselves prioritize PC/Console gaming first…”
Edelman believes that because PC and console dominate the market and thus advertising and marketing dollars go there first, mobile gamers feel left in the dust.
“We think that whole process can be centralized by creating one destination for all mobile-gaming-related content,” he said. “This vision is a big reason why so many celebs have signed on as Kamcord Partners.”
Those celebs who have signed up for Kamcord include Chief Pat, a YouTuber with over 1.4 million subscribers; Godson, with 1 million plus subscribers on YouTube; and popular Minecraft player AviatorGaming. Including these three, Kamcord has signed on 20 others as partners during this launch.
To celebrate the launch of the platform’s newest capability Kamcord is holding a celebrity event from July 23 until July 26 where it has invited numerous celebrities from Twitch and YouTube mobile gaming to play for viewers.
People are right now playing mobile games for viewers such as Minecraft, Vainglory, and Brave Frontier.
Kamcord does not leave developers in the lurch when it comes to integrating its functionality into their mobile games.
With the Kamcord SDK, developers can integrate directly with the service, providing community interaction, a chat interface, and even a developer dashboard that delivers metrics on how Kamcord users are interacting socially within the game. Integrating with Kamcord provides the functionality for users to like, comment, and watch videos without leaving the game.
The SDK and API promise “effortless integration,” using only 4 lines of code: init, start and stop recording, and show Kamcord view.
The entire package is available for both iOS and Android platforms.
