Outlook revamped with Uber and PayPal add-ins, amongst others

Earlier this year Microsoft released a feature rich preview of Outlook.com, with the promise of more to come. The Redmond, WA-based software maker has made good on its promise and has announced that it is now rolling out add-ins for Uber, PayPal, and Boomerang for Office 365 and Outlook 2013. New partnerships have also been made with Evernote, Yelp, IFTTT and the recently acquired list-making app Wunderlist. The Outlook.com preview, which was only made available for a selected number of preview users, has also been expanded to reach a wider audience, according to Microsoft.

Here’s a short run down of what you’ll be able to do directly from your inbox with the new add-ins:

The Uber add-in, available in Outlook 2013 and Outlook on the web for users with Office 365 and Exchange 2013 mailboxes, means you can book a ride from your calendar. Once booked you’ll get a reminder prior to travelling, confirm that with a tap, and you’re on your way.

The PayPal add-in, available for the same platforms as Uber, will also be available for Outlook.com in the coming month. From now on straight from your inbox you’ll be able to do things like pay restaurant bills or make good on debts.

Maybe less exciting than Uber and PayPal are the rest of the add-ins. With Evernote you can easily clip notes, graphs, etc, to email and so works as a nice collaboration tool, while Boomerang can schedule exactly when you want people to receive your emails. You’ll also be notified if a response wasn’t written.

IFTTT, which is already available in Office 365, will come to Outlook.com soon but Microsoft didn’t give an exact date.  With IFTTT you can ask for various reports sent via email to you every day, such as stock market news, or be notified when important emails have been sent to you. Yelp, that helps users find the right business, hotels, restaurants, as well as Wunderlist, are also coming soon to Outlook.com but no exact time given by Microsoft.
