Amazon re:Invent 2015 officially kicked off yesterday. theCUBE, SiliconANGLE’s media team, is at the Venetian in Las Vegas, NV covering the event and extracting the signal from the noise. You can watch live interviews with C-level executives here.
One of the announcements many are looking forward to is the rumored launch of an Internet of Things dedicated service. The new service could make it easier for developers to tie their products to the cloud, which may also mean better interoperability between connected devices.
This rumor is backed by Amazon’s acquisition of 2lemetry, Inc. back in March. 2lemetry is a cloud platform company that focuses on IoT for the enterprise to help drive business transformation and innovation.
As proof that the service will be announced anytime during the AWS re:Invent 2015, Domain Name Wire reported that Amazon has acquired a number of domain names for its IoT cloud services.
The domain names purchased by Amazon include amazoninternetofthings.com, amazoniotplatform.com, awsinternetofthings.com, awsiotplatform.com, awsiotservice.com.
It’s not entirely clear which of these names Amazon will officially use for its IoT cloud service, but this move appears to be a defensive move in securing Amazon’s potential for domains in the near future.
If domain names are a glimpse of what Amazon is set to unveil, it should be n0ted that there are even more domain names Amazon has taken in:
amazonautograph.com, awsautograph.com, amazonquicksight.com, awsquicksight.com, amazonsnowball.com, awssnowball.com, awsappfirewall.com, awswaf.com, awswebappfirewall.com; awsgoldbase.com, amazongoldbase.com.
But what is Amazon cooking up? What kind of service will Snowball be? Will these services be announced at re:Invent? Guess we’ll just have to be a little patient to find out.
