Automated testing to play major role in mobile evolution | #DOES15

Automated testing services will lighten companies’ in-house technological loads, according to Neil Manvar, solutions architect at Sauce Labs, Inc.. The San Francisco-based startup provides testing services using Appium and Selenium open-source tools.

Manvar told Brian Gracely, cohost of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, during the DevOps Enterprise Summit that he believes more and more companies will jettison their in-house grid in favor of automated testing from providers like Sauce Labs.

When discussing companies that maintain their own grid for testing, Manvar said, “It really doesn’t make sense.” Outsourcing testing will both save companies the investment in an in-house grid and free up more time for staff to focus on their core business, he explained.

Mobile snafus stopped in their tracks

Manvar believes that mobile applications are a key area where automated testing will become increasingly popular. He believes that continuous delivery will enable automated testing to bring mobile applications to market much faster than in the past.

“Mobile was a little bit late to the game of continuous delivery in the fact that it’s hard to implement. Now continuous delivery is getting increasingly popular all throughout the board with all types of products, whether it be web or mobile or native or hybrid,” he stated.

He said that automated testing allows companies to test their apps on all different devices, work out the bugs in their code and make improvements quickly. With this increased efficiency, “Time to market is going to be significantly shortened,” he concluded.
