Can Oracle become the number one cloud provider? | #CloudWorld
In the midst of Oracle’s historic third shift, Shawn Price, senior VP of Oracle Cloud at Oracle, detailed the buyer’s journey at CloudWorld. Price remarked about the smooth trajectory of the company’s business model, which until now has only had two major shifts. This third shift is the move to the public cloud for most applications in Oracle’s wheelhouse.
During an interview with John Furrier and Dave Vellante, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, Price stated that in the past, Oracle has been measured “against an old yard stick.” He explained that Oracle sees up to 70 percent growth “year after year.” When Furrier suggested that Oracle would be in the top three cloud providers in the coming quarters, Price interjected “Come on!” adding that this third shift is all “about winning,” which requires being number one.
Oracle’s third shift
Price commented that in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) to cloud, Oracle is in “hypergrowth.” He projected that by 2020, 100 percent of app tech would be in the Cloud.
Price attributed Oracle’s success to being “multi-generational” in its customer base. This allows for a “beautiful flywheel effect” as customers help Oracle “reimagine” its journey. With customers deeply involved in this third shift, Oracle may just end up achieving its goal of being number one.
