Where to sell old iPhones and how much cash you’ll get

The iPhone SE started pre-selling on March 24 and will be available in Apple Stores by March 31. Planning on purchasing the new iPhone and have an old iPhone around? This is the best time to trade it in for cash to use towards Apple’s newest handset.

For those who own an iPhone 1st gen, 3G, 3GS, 4, 4s, 5, 5s or 5c and want to upgrade, here are some places to sell an old iOS device and get some cash back.

eBay

eBay, Inc. allows consumers to sell their old smartphones for cash, whether it’s working or not, but devices in good working condition will be valued higher.

A 1st gen unlocked 8GB iPhone in good working condition with no accessories is valued at $54, surprisingly, a 3G iPhone with the same parameters is only valued at $24.50. A 16GB iPhone 3GS, unlocked, in good working condition, with no accessories is valued at $30.50. A gold, unlocked, 16GB iPhone 4, in good working condition with no accessories is priced at $221, but an iPhone 4s with the same parameters only goes for $67.50.

A black & slate, unlocked, 16GB iPhone 5, in good working condition with no accessories is valued at $116, while a blue, unlocked, 16GB iPhone 5c in good working condition with no accessories is priced at $113, and a gold, unlocked 16GB iPhone 5s in good working condition with no accessories goes for $178.

Glyde

Glyde Corp. makes selling old iPhones easy to do from the comfort of home. The first thing a seller needs to do is list the device on Glyde website and if it sells, Glyde will send a shipping kit along with a pre-paid label. Payment will be made to a user’s Glyde account three days after the item has been delivered to the buyer.

An iPhone 4, black, 32GB, from AT&T, functions well, with some scratches, no engravings, and no accessories is priced at $22. You’ll get $35 for a 4s with the same parameters. A black 32GB iPhone 5 from AT&T, functions well, with some scratches, no engraving, and does not include accessories is priced at $67; a blue 32GB iPhone 5c from AT&T, functions well, with some scratches, no engravings and no accessories is priced at $72; and a gold 32GB iPhone 5s from AT&T that functions well, with some scratches, no engravings or accessories is priced at $98.

For really old iPhones such as the first generation, 3G and 3Gs, good luck. There’s no options to sell these older models on Glyde at the moment.

iCracked

iCracked, Inc. offers two ways for consumers to sell their devices. The first is Express Sell wherein a local iTech person meets with the seller, inspects the device and if everything checks well, the seller is paid with a prepaid debit card that can be immediately used.

The other option is the mail-in service, which takes about a week and the seller gets paid via PayPal or check.

While iCracked makes selling faster and easier, the oldest iPhone model users can sell here is the iPhone 5. A 32GB iPhone 5 and 5c  from AT&T that functions well, with signs of normal use is valued at $23. As for a gold, 33GB iPhone 5s from AT&T that functions well with normal signs of use, the value is $38 for the Express Sell option and $73 for the Mail-in service.

A 64GB working iPhone 5 from AT&T is valued at $75 for in-store credit and $60 for cash; if the device is dead the value drops to $10 for store credit and $8 for cash.

A 32GB working iPhone 5c from AT&T is valued at $70 for store credit and $56 for cash, but if dead, the value drops to $10 for store credit and $8 for cash. Reminders

Before you sell your device, make sure all your data had been deleted. To do this, go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings.

Also, be sure to turn off Find my iPhone to prevent the new owner from being able to use it. To turn it off, go to Settings > iCloud > Find My iPhone – toggle this to off.
