The OpenStack Summit in Austin, TX, has proved an exciting place to discover what’s new in the open-source and Cloud communities. And, although the event is at an end, the announcements made there will echo through the tech world for some time to come.
Taking some time to look back on the convention, Stu Miniman (@stu), Brian Gracely (@bgracely), and John Walls, cohosts of theCUBE, from the SiliconANGLE Media team, sat down together to discuss their opinions of OpenStack and the jam-packed event.
Miniman opened by pointing out the community should really be excited about what they’ve done in such a short time. They’ve gone from simply building OpenStack to putting out solutions, applications and landing some big use cases. Now, the community is figuring out how OpenStack fits in a multi-Cloud world.
Gracely admitted that he came in a little skeptical of OpenStack, but he found the Summit encouraging. He’s seen more deployment models, more ways customers can use OpenStack and more people saying they use the software in their business.
Change is always a challenge in technology, Gracely said. The big issues in Gracely’s opinion are the mobile world growing and moving faster than the desktop world, as well as OpenStack being less about replatforming the old and more about making businesses ready for the digital environment.
Now, Miniman said, is where does OpenStack make dollars and how does it permeate the ecosystem? There are a lot of companies, he said, who are leveraging OpenStack and being part of that community.
