Zelda U launching on Nintendo NX and Wii U: No more flipped screens on two consoles?

Nintendo fans have been awaiting news on the next generation console, the Nintendo NX. A false leak of the controller recently hit the net, but following its debunking, there has been no more news about the system, until now.

Nintendo’s Twitter account has announced that the Nintendo NX is scheduled for a release in March 2017. That’s somewhat further back than many were expecting, but provides the company with a little under a year to finish perfecting and testing the system, as well as its launch title games.

On a similar note, the new “Legend of Zelda” game has been pushed back accordingly. Another announcement on the Nintendo of America Twitter account explains that it will launch simultaneously on the Wii U and NX, allowing both early adopters of the new system and those who haven’t yet finished enjoying their Wii U consoles to enjoy it.

Better than the last Zelda double release

This is not the first time Nintendo has launched a “Zelda” game on two consoles at once; “Twilight Princess” was also launched on the Wii and GameCube, although that created an interesting situation, wherein the screens were flipped on each version, so that the Wii version would have the normally left-handed Link hold his sword in his right hand, so as to match the players holding the Wii remote. Unless the NX features a new style of motion controls, it is unlikely that this will be a repeat of that situation.

In the meantime, Nintendo fans now have one year to get through their Wii U backlog before it’s time to start on a new system.
