Snapchat’s new Memories feature: How to save and share all your old Snaps

Snapchat Inc. has received one of its biggest changes yet with the introduction of a new feature called Memories. The feature will allow Snapchat’s 150 million daily users to save old Snaps within an archive of the main app. Snaps and Stories within Memories can then be edited, filtered and shared.

We look at how you can save Snaps and Stories to the new Memories section, as well as how to search and edit old Snaps. We also look at the ‘My Eyes Only’ section where you can keep all those secret Snaps and Stories, and the availability of the new feature.

Easily save and find Snaps or Stories in Memories

Before when you saved a Snap it was added to your camera roll or gallery. Now with the new Memories feature, when you create your Snap and tap the Save icon it will save it to the Memories section of Snapchat.

Tip: You can access the Memories section by swiping up from the camera screen.

Find and edit your Snaps and Stories

When you open up the Memories section you will find all your Snaps and Stories displayed in reverse-chronological order.

Individual Snaps are shown as rectangular posts while Stories are shown as circular posts and you will be able to see a live preview of the various Snaps within the Story. You can also filter your Memories by using the tabs and only see Snaps, Stories or the complete camera roll.

You can also search for specific Snaps and Stories using certain keywords that relate to them, like ‘dog’, ‘Hawaii’, ‘food’, etc.

Note: To import Snaps from your camera roll or gallery to your Memories, go Snapchat’s Settings > Memories > Import Snaps from Camera Roll.

If you want to edit any of your Snaps you can simply tap and hold it and you can then add geo-filters and timestamps.

Create new Stories from your Snaps

If you want to create a new Story from the Snaps in the Memories section, simply press and hold an individual snap > tap My Snap > tap Create Story from this Snap > select the additional Snaps for your Story. To create a longer narrative, you can also combine different Stories.

You can send these Stories to friends, save them or add them to the My Story section.

Note: Any Snaps that are older than 24 hours will display with a frame and a timestamp in your Story.

Keep certain Memories secret

If there are certain Snaps or Stories that really shouldn’t be seen by your parents when they are scrolling through your Memories then there is a way to ensure they don’t see something they shouldn’t. The feature is called ‘My Eyes Only’ and you can place any Snaps here that you want to keep for your personal viewing pleasure.

To add a Snap to the My Eyes Only section, press and hold the Snap > tap My Snap > tap Move to My Eyes Only > enter a passcode or passphrase to keep your secret Snaps secure.

Within Memories, there will now be a new tab called My Eyes Only where you will be able to access your secret photos.

The availability of Memories

Snapchat has said that it is rolling out the new Memories feature “selectively over the next month or so,” therefore it could still be some time before you get to enjoy the new feature.

Ensure you have the latest iOS or Android Snapchat app installed on your device and when Memories is available for you to use you will receive a Chat from Team Snapchat.
