Google intros new tool for U.S. voters

Google is providing a helping hand to those who wish to vote in the upcoming U.S. presidential elections.

It’s just introduced a new tool that helps citizens to register for the vote, all they need to do is search for “register to vote” or some similar term, and Google will provide detailed information on the required identity documents, eligibility requirements, and nearby places where they can register.

Google also offers downloadable voted reregistration forms, and addresses of each state’s board of elections for those who wish to register by mail. The tool also provides alternative addresses for those who wish to speed up their registration. Finally, users can check if they’re already registered to vote in the election using the tool.

Unique information is provided for each state, which is useful because many states accept different forms of ID for those wishing to register. For example, voters in Illinois who don’t have a driving license or passport can also use a current bank statement or utility bill, a paycheck from their employer, or a government paycheck that indicates their name and address.

Google product manager Jacob Schonberg said in a blog post that the tool is designed to give people every opportunity to vote in the elections.

“With states’ varied deadlines and methods, the voter registration process can be tricky,” Schonberg wrote. As such, the new tool is designed to “simplify the process to make it easier for you to have your voice heard,” he added.

Google is also providing more information for those who search for either the Republican National Convention or the Democratic National Convention. The Google app now provides a quick summary of both events, the party’s presidential nominees and also a list of speakers for that day. Google also provides a link to a YouTube stream for both events, as well as links to “relevant social media posts” that help people stay up to date on the conventions.
