Google helps you stay up-to-date on all the Rio 2016 Olympic action

Two weeks ago, Google introduced a tool that will assist voters in the U.S. presidential elections. Now the company is once again lending a helping hand with new features that will ensure you do not miss out on any of the Rio 2016 Olympics that start this week, August 5.

We look at the new features including medal tallies, athlete bios, video highlights, and more.

Finding information on the 2016 Olympic Games is simplified in Search, including the ability to get medal tallies for each of the countries competing, athlete bios, and event schedules.

Tip: When you search via the Android or iOS Google app you can sign up for automatic alerts for medal wins and top events.

Video highlights on YouTube

If you are unable to watch your favorite Olympic events live due to time zone difference or are simply too busy, you can watch video highlights on YouTube. Google has teamed up with broadcasters, including BBC, America Movil and Japan’s NHK, in 60-plus countries to bring you the action in both YouTube’s Watch Cards and Google Search results.

There will also be mobile live streams from 15 top YouTube creators, who have been chosen to cover the 2016 Olympic Games.

Google Maps brings you the indoor detail

If you will be attending the 2016 Olympic Games or just want to see where all the events will take place you can check out the indoor maps for 25 official indoor venues in Rio. In addition Google Maps for Android, iOS and desktop also have enhanced outdoor maps for 12 official outdoor venues.

Make sure you have the latest version of Google Maps for Android or iOS installed on your device.

To use indoor maps, open the Google Maps app or open it on your desktop. Search for a place with indoor maps, like the Maracanã, where among others activities is where the Opening Ceremony will take place.

Zoom into the stadium and click on it. At the bottom right of your screen, you will be able to select different floors and levels of the stadium. While various points of interest like ATMs, restrooms, information desks, concessions, etc. are highlighted on the indoor map allowing you to get around easily.

In addition to the indoor maps and advanced outdoor maps, Google Street View also features various landmarks and highlights around Rio de Janeiro. These include Olympic venues as well as tourist destinations.
