Google & Huawei rumored to launch 7-inch tablet at Oct 4 event

For months rumors have been making the rounds about the next Google Nexus smartphones, built by HTC Corp. that will supposedly launch at an event on October 4. While the focus has been on the new smartphones, the latest rumor to be making the rounds is that Google, together with Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd is also working on a tablet, that will likely launch at the same event.

Android tablets continue to dominate the global tablet market, but tablet sales continue to fall worldwide, dropping by 12.3 percent in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2015, according to figures released by the International Data Corporation (IDC) last month.

The news about the rumored tablet, which could be a successor to the Nexus 7, from Google and Huawei comes from renowned technology leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks). The only details we know about the tablet, according to the tweet from Blass, is its size, storage and release date. The tablet is rumored to be 7 inches with 4GB of RAM and is on track to be released by the end of the year.

What the tablet will be called is unknown, especially considering the latest rumor to emerge about the upcoming Nexus phones that have them dropping the Nexus name and being called the Pixel and Pixel XL. However, there is still plenty of time for more rumors to surface about the tablet ahead of the October, 4 launch.

If all the rumors are to be believed the Google event is going to be jam-packed with the launch of a 4K version of Chromecast, a Daydream VR headset, a tablet, and two new smartphones.

In addition to being HTC-built and named the Pixel and Pixel XL, other rumors about the smartphones include display sizes of 5 and 5.5 inch, with a 2,770 mAh battery in the smaller device and a 3,450 mAh battery is the larger one. The devices are rumored to have 4GB of RAM, up to 128GB of storage and the latest Qualcomm processor. There is also a rumored electric blue color option and a new Nexus Launcher.
