Box and IBM launch Box Relay to streamline document-heavy workflows

Box Inc. and IBM have teamed up to develop Box Relay, software that allows enterprises to automate and streamline its workflow processes, such as processing invoices, recruiting, reviewing and approving contracts and more.

When managing document-heavy workflows, companies either make use of complicated workflow tools or rely on non-standard options like email or spreadsheets, which merely slow down the process. Box wanted to create a simplified, efficient solution that anyone in the organization could use.

Box Relay allows all employees to create either custom workflows or use an existing workflow template while internal team members or external partners can be invited to participate on the applicable workflow. Box Relay offers email alerts when items are assigned or overdue and an audit trail provides visibility on all the actions taken. The Box Relay dashboard provides real-time visibility for all team members so everyone is aware what tasks are ongoing.

For existing Box customers who want to streamline their workflows, Box Relay will soon be available in a public beta, but you can complete your details now for the beta. Pricing for the product is still being finalized but “Box Relay will be sold via subscription,” Aaron Levie (above), co-founder and chief executive officer of Box, told Bloomberg.

Box narrowly beat analysts’ estimates with its Q2 earnings announcement last week of an adjusted loss of 14 cents a share and reported revenue of $95.7 million. Levi said that the company will be “cash flow positive by the end of this year.”

The announcement of Box Relay comes ahead of the company’s BoxWorks conference, which starts today in San Francisco. Levie told Bloomberg that the conference would announce feature updates for team collaboration and new ways to work with files in Box.

If you are interested in what Box will unveil at its BoxWorks conference, together with additional details about Box Relay, you can live stream the BoxWorks keynote on the official event site, which starts at 9 AM Pacific. Featured speakers at the event include Levie; Werner Vogels, chief technology officer at Amazon.com Inc.; and Diane Greene, senior vice president in charge of enterprise and cloud at Google Inc.
