Last week, Apple Inc. released iOS 10.1 to the public, which brought Portrait mode to iPhone 7 Plus users. Now the company has seeded iOS 10.2 beta to developers. While it doesn’t include a big feature like Portrait mode it does include new smaller features like the ability to preserve your camera settings, new emojis, a Videos widget and more.
If you are already part of the Apple Developer Program you can get the iOS 10.2 beta 1 as an over-the-air download. If you are part of the public beta program, the iOS 10.2 beta will likely be available in the next few days.
The beta version of iOS 10.2 for developers brings a new camera setting called Preserve Settings, which allows users to preserve the last Camera Mode, Photo Filter, or Live Photo setting.
To access the Preserve Settings, open the Settings app > Photos & Camera > under camera, tap Preserve Settings > enable which camera settings you want to preserve.
A Unicode 9.0 update brings new emojis to iOS 10.2. These include a clown face, drooling face, selfie, fox face, owl, shark, butterfly, avocado, pancakes, croissant, bacon and others. There are also new profession emojis in male and female, including firefighter, mechanic, lawyer, doctor, scientist, and more. There are also redesigns for some of the existing emojis.
Apple has added a new widget for the Videos app. Once added the Videos widget will display movies and TV shows in the Videos app and a simple tap will automatically play the content.
Widgets are accessible by swiping right on either the Home or Lock screen of your iPhone or iPad. To add a new widget tap Edit at the bottom of the widgets screen > find the Video widget > tap the ‘+’ green icon next to Videos widget > tap the Done button in the top right.
Read our iOS 10 widgets article to learn more about adding, removing and completely disabling widgets on your iPhone and iPad.
With the launch of iOS 10, Apple introduced full-screen animations that could be added to a message. The beta version of iOS 10.2 introduces a new “Celebrate” screen effect.
To add a full-screen animation, type your message > tap and hold the Send button > select the Screen tab > select your preferred background animation from the options. The recipient of your animation will see the full-screen animation when they open the message.
If you use the Emergency SOS feature on iPhone or Apple Watch, your emergency contacts will now be notified automatically, informing them that you have used the Emergency SOS feature. After the install of iOS 10.2 a pop-up notification will display when you open the Health app.
Apple has introduced three new wallpapers, which use the same graphics used in the iPhone 7 marketing material.
Apple Music in iOS 10.2 beta brings new sorting features, allowing you to sort playlists by type, title, and recently added. You can also sort songs and albums by title or artist.
Under the Home button accessibility settings, there is a new “Press and Hold to Speak” menu with the options of Siri, Voice Control or the option to disable it completely.
Open the Settings app > Accessibility > Home button > select whether you want to enable Siri or Voice Control when you press and hold the Home button or simply disable the feature.
