Samsung, Lenovo launch tablets, 2-in-1 devices at Mobile World Congress
Smartphones not surprisingly dominated the unveilings at Mobile World Congress, the wireless industry conference that opens officially today in Barcelona. But other devices are getting introduced as well, including several new tablets and 2-in-1 devices.
These are the tablets and 2-in-1s announced at MWC so far:
Tablets
Samsung Galaxy Tab S3
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has unveiled the Galaxy Tab S3 (above), the company’s latest tablet.
The Android-based 9.7-inch Galaxy Tab S3 has a redesigned metal and glass body and Super AMOLED display. The AMOLED display, with 2,048 x 1,536 resolution, is rated for High Dynamic Range video content and is the first Android tablet to offer HDR.
Under the hood, the Tab S3 has a Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, which is expandable.
The Galaxy Tab S3 supports the updated S Pen stylus that now has a smaller 0.7mm tip, increased pressure sensitivity and no longer requires a battery. The S Pen features Advanced Drawing Tools, Screen Off Memo and PDF Annotation.
The tablet includes quad speakers, a fingerprint sensor in the Home button, a USB Type-C port and will be offered in Wi-Fi and LTE options. The new folio keyboard with POGO pin connection is sold separately.
Samsung has not released details on pricing and availability.
Note: During its press conference Samsung announced that its flagship smartphone. the Galaxy S8, will launch on Wednesday, Mar. 29 in New York.
Lenovo Tab 4 series
Lenovo Group Ltd. has launched four new budget tablets at MWC, split into two 8-inch versions and two 10-inch versions.
Each of the sizes is divided further into a standard and a Plus variant. The Lenovo Tab 4 8 has a 720p display, Snapdragon 425 processor, 2GB of RAM, up to 32GB of storage, microUSB for charging, a 4,850 mAh battery, and Android Nougat. The device will cost $109.
The Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus has a 1,920 x 1,200 display, Snapdragon 625 processor, up to 4GB of RAM and up to 64GB of storage. It comes with a USB-C for charging, a 4,850 mAh battery, Android Nougat and a fingerprint sensor. The device will cost $199.
The 10-inch standard and Plus versions have the same specs as the Tab 4 8 and 4 8 Plus, but the larger versions come equipped with a 7,000 mAh battery. The Tab 4 10 costs $149 while the Tab 4 10 Plus costs $249.
2-in-1 tablets
Samsung Galaxy Book
Samsung also launched a Windows 10 2-in-1 tablet aimed at professionals. The Galaxy Book comes in two versions, a 10.6-inch with TFT LCD display and a 12-inch with Super AMOLED display.
The 10.6-inch Galaxy Book has a 1,920 x 1,280-pixel resolution display and is powered by a 2.6GHz 7th Gen Intel Core m3 processor. It has 4GB of RAM, up to 128GB of eMMC storage, a microSD card slot and a USB Type-C port.
While the 12-inch Galaxy Book has a 2,160 x 1,440-pixel resolution display, a 3.1GHz 7th Gen Intel Core i5 processor and support for HDR. It has up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB SSD storage, two USB Type-C ports and a microSD card slot.
Both tablets have LTE Cat.6 support, Fast Charging and are capable of 4K video playback.
The new Galaxy Books are powered by Windows 10 and offer users a full desktop Microsoft Office experience. They also include apps like Samsung Notes, Air Command and Samsung Flow.
The Galaxy Book comes with a backlit keyboard and S Pen. Samsung has not released details yet on pricing and availability.
Lenovo Miix 320
Lenovo also launched the new Miix 320, a low-cost Windows 10-powered 2-in-1 tablet.
The 10.1-inch Miix 320 has a full HD display, up to 4GB of RAM, up to 128GB of storage and Intel’s Atom X5 processor. It has a detachable full keyboard with precision trackpad and up to 10 hours of battery life.
The Lenovo Miix 320 will be available in an LTE and non-LTE model with prices starting at $199.
