2010 Predictions: Rick Gardinier’s List [The Marketing Perspective]

[Editor’s Note: A number of SiliconANGLE community members, readers and contributors are just too darn busy to sit down to write several hundred words on what last year held for them and what tech trends they see emerging in 2010. As such, I’ve offered to sit down and do a ten minute interview with anyone who feels like they have something to share in the way of 2010 predictions (including you! Join this group and leave a note for me in the forums).

Late last week, I had a chance to sit down with BrunnerWork’s SVP, Rick Gardinier. Chances are, you’ve read his past posts on augmented reality, one of our more popular topics here at SiliconANGLE. We actually had two discussions, one in which we talked about his reflections on the dominant trends of 2009, and a discussion that’ll show up here tomorrow about his thoughts on 2010. Below are the bullet points for our discussion and the video embed. To download the conversation, grab this MP4. –mrh]

– Augmented Reality – The Droid obviously will change everything now that Layar is available for all users.  We will see solid testing but utility will be key – gimmicky apps will run a short course

– More conversations with marketers re: mobile than ever before and it will actually be built into budgets

– Social media monitoring is a must-have – just like web analytics it will no longer be an option

– IT will continue opening up to cloud computing and empowering marketers again to make technology decisions in response to marketers’ need for speed as they continue to embrace digital
