I’ve been in the thick of this HTML5 vs. Adobe flash argument for awhile, so believe me when I say that I wish I saw this coming. As it turns out, Adobe (at the Barcelona mobile convention) announced their efforts to put Air on Android and Blackberry phones.
…Yeah, didn’t see that coming either. What are the benefits?
Remember how easy it was to make or play that cool Flashed based game? You know how every single provider of online video works on your computer, more or less without any effort?
Now imagine the game ported from your desktop to your phone, resized. That’s right, imagine how easy it would be to spread you developer and producer profits across more than just one phone and device. Basically you could make an app for the iPhone and one for AdobeAIR, that would cover all the bases…right?
Well we won’t truly see the benefits or downsides from this until we see evidence in production. But it is still rather cool to Adobe fighting and kicking to stay relevant in the new mobile world.
