Motorola Cliq XT First Impressions

image

This is my first Google Android phone and I must say that I’m very impressed! The screen is great, the phone itself is very light and the overall design is attractive.

I asked myself: “Would I leave the HTC Touch Pro 2 for this?”

The jury is still out. Even though I do miss the Touch Pro 2’s physical keyboard, using the SWYPE keyboard on this is insane!  I’m using it to write this post and it’s very easy. This software single handedly makes this device a one thumb production tool.

I was originally aiming for something with a bigger screen and a more up to date Android version. I believe the Cliq XT is an Android 1.x series, so some of Googles’  coolest features are not included. Having said that, what this phone can do is pretty cool.

What I do not like is Motoblur. I did try it but a couple of days later I just downloaded Facebook for Android and Seesmic and used their widgets instead. The speed is good and the marketplace is adequate. Compared to Nokia’s OVI store and Windows Mobile app store, the marketplace is wonderful.

So overall, my TP2 has been on the shelf lately because everything I want to do with a smartphone can be done with this device.
