HP Acquires Fortify, Great Time to Beef Up Security

Mark Hurd may still be in the hot seat, but it’s business as usual over at HP. The company has announced its acquisition of securities company Fortify Software, for an undisclosed amount. The privately held security assurance company, based in San Mateo, California, will enable HP to extend more tools for businesses to identify vulnerabilities and protect applications from attacks.

HP will initially maintain Fortify as a separate entity. Its integration beefs up the tool sets HP offers through its enterprise solutions, particularly towards the protection of consumer software and hardware found in HP products. From Fortify’s released statement,

“Fortify has always been committed to helping chief information security officers and application teams find, fix and prevent security vulnerabilities before they can be exploited by attackers,” said John M. Jack, chief executive officer, Fortify Software. “Joining HP will allow us to further integrate our proven technology and security expertise with HP’s solutions, letting our joint clients shrink the time-to-security for their new and existing production applications.”

The two companies teamed up last year with the “Hybrid 2.0” security analysis technology, continuing a previous relationship Fortify had with HP. The acquisition will bring additional integration opportunities for HP as it beefs up its consumer electronics product lines in light of major pushes from all its competitors in the coming 6-12 months.
