SeeqPod Finally Finds an Exit; Intertrust Technologies

SeeqPod has finally found a buyer. Last year, there were rumors about Microsoft acquiring the bankrupt company. But now, the deal has been finalized with InterTrust Technologies. SeeqPod a music search engine, found itself in hot water when mauled by Copyright lawsuits. Their troubles continued as they filed for a bankruptcy last year. Now, InterTrust has acquired all the software and patents produced by SeeqPod Inc. by the Chapter 7 Bankruptcy proceeding.  From the company’s released statement :

“SeeqPod’s technologies are remarkably efficient at finding highly accurate pattern matches over large distributed networks like the Internet,” said Dave Maher, executive vice president and chief technology officer for Intertrust. “Intertrust plans to use SeeqPod’s breakthrough technology in distributed search systems in a variety of applications and services for Internet television, targeted advertising, recommendation systems, electronic music distribution and healthcare information services.”

It is specially interesting to note that Microsoft had an agreement with InterTrust in 2004. This agreement gave Microsoft access to the InterTrust patent portfolio. Would this mean that Microsoft now has access to SeeqPod’s technology, which they declined to buy last year?
