Scoreloop Makes Android Gaming Social: New App, Updated SDK

With the Android gaming market still living in the shadow of the iPhone it’s important to stand up and take notice of those businesses who are working to bring it into the light. One such company happens to be Scoreloop who hope to revolutionize the Android social gaming landscape.

Scoreloop’s offering to the market is a sort of social discovery network for Android games. It takes advantage of the microblogging fad built up by Twitter and Facebook to deliver recommendations about games between friends. The need for a framework that embraces multiple different games within the Android platform is becoming more apparent as game families tend to cluster together and don’t play well with others.

With the launch of their app, Scoreloop is reaching out to as many other developers, gaming companies, and the like to enable better cross-promotion and discovery. When we asked CEO Marc Gumpinger about Scoreloop’s international expansion, particularly in regards to Android’s platform growth. He responded, saying,

“Scoreloop is the #1 social gaming network across mobile platforms – internationally. We started with the iPhone and moved on to the Android market which we now dominate. In the same vein Scoreloop will support and dominate other major smartphone platforms within the coming months. The iPhone sparked a new wave. But the other major players are following. First was Google with Android but now we’re talking about BREW, bada, MeeGo, Windows, etc. With huge companies like Intel, Nokia, Qualcomm, Microsoft, and Samsung joining — the party has just begun.

Scoreloop prepared its products for cross platform support from the beginning on. While others focused just on the iPhone and now have a hard time porting to other platforms, Scoreloop’s cross platform support now represents the core USP that will – and actually already has determined the key to success.
We’re not interested in the niche market of 100M users on iOS – we’re targeting the market of more than 1B mobile end-users.”

“While Apple has Game Center, there is no such thing on Android. We’re already #1 on Android with millions of users actively using our social gaming features. Market demand was so strong on Android that we now provide the de-facto standard Game Center like app on Android.

With its Facebook-like friend feed that shows what your friends are playing, the Scoreloop App for Android provides end-users with a fun and free way to stay in touch with their friends in a playful way. In a world of thousands of games it also provides end-users an effective means to find other games they might like. For developers the Scoreloop App provides a simple way to cross promote their games – for free.”

With the release of the Scoreloop SDK developers will be able to take further advantage of the social discovery, scoreboard, and networking capabilities of the app. The more Android games that embrace this network will give the current games on the platform a great deal more exposure, produce a friendly competition between friends and strangers, and most likely amplify adoption by other businesses as they see their competitors’ reach grow. This is a major area of growth and opportunity, as Millennial Media has pointed out in its July SMART report–games still rank high in the mobile world of revenue-generation.

Launch partners implementing these social discovery features within their games include Boolba Labs, Goodteam Lab, and HyperBees Ltd. and JiuzhangTech.
