Dropbox Updates iPhone, Android. Launches Blackberry App.

People have been using Dropbox mobile apps to access and share their files anytime, anywhere using their internet-connected devices.  The cloud storage solution for lets users to sync, share and secure their files and media across PC and phone devices.  Dropbox  announced updates for its iPhone and Android apps, as well as a new app for BlackBerry.  The company also revealed an app directory, full of third party apps that work well with Dropbox’s service.

“In both their work and their leisure time, people increasingly use an array of Internet connected devices, and not just a single computer,” said Drew Houston, co-founder and CEO of Dropbox. “Dropbox offers a common thread that ties all of these systems together, making important files and data immediately available regardless of device. Not only does this make the individual devices more useful, but this helps enable the broader industry.”

The updated Android and iPhone apps have new features like automatic offline caching for recently accessed files, support for HD video and high-resolution photo capture.

This ‘apps being built around other apps’ trend is likely to continue.  Evernote has encouraged the development of a sub-market around its app as well, building support and offering more consumer tools in doing so.
