Samsung, LG Among First to Launch Windows Phone 7 Devices

Windows Phone 7 should be here any minute, and handset makers are all ready for the new Microsoft mobile launch.  Samsung and LG are both reportedly launching their first cell phones running the Windows Phone 7 OS next week, according to PCWorld.

For the mobile phone manufacturers, you should see Windows handsets in France later this month, and other areas of Europe.  Samsung plans to extend the launch to the US, among other international regions, in the coming months.  LG’s U.K. unit has already announced the Optimus 7 and Samsung’s Russian unit has announced the Omnia 7, but the other handsets are as-yet unannounced.

It’s been a long time coming for Microsoft, with more than its fair share of hype preceding this week’s unveiling.  Early reviews have been mixed, with some in favor of Windows Phone 7, and others wary of placing high expectations on the OS, given the dominance of Apple and Google in the mobile platform market.

Nevertheless, Microsoft is ushering in its new mobile operating system, with hopes of regaining control of the growing marketplace.  Microsoft has signed a number of manufacturing partners, seller partners and has been placing a lot of emphasis on things like its advertising SDK in order to attract the several participating parties needed to really make waves here. Prepare for Microsoft’s future: watch its promo video for Windows Phone 7.
