Gameloft is getting ready to port its iPhone titles to the Galaxy Tab. Samsung’s debut tablet is powered by Google’s Android and uses a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor. So, with the fastest mobile graphics, Galaxy Tab is expected to rock in the gaming sphere. Initially, 3 games (i.e. Asphalt 5 HD, N.O.V.A. HD, and Let’s Golf! HD) would be available for gamers on Android. There are still some issues with the distribution mechanism. Analysts say:
Unfortunately, Gameloft is sticking with their policy of only selling these games on their website for now. Users must enter their phone number to receive a text message with a download link, but the U.S. versions of the Tab do no support voice calls so I’m sure Gameloft is working on another distribution method.
Never the less, Gameloft’s move to port games for Galaxy Tab will be much appreciated, especially by gaming fanatics using Androids. Interestingly, Gameloft was one of the first to pull away from the Android Market and sell its games direct to users. Samsung is definitely happy about this announcement, as, it is seeking widespread distribution of it’s tablets. The Galaxy Tab will be going on sale at Sprint stores, Verizon stores and also at AT&T stores to meet the 10 million shipping target.
Gameloft’s consideration of the Tab sets Samsung’s tablet up as an entertainment device. The decision by Gameloft also implies a good future for android. is further confirmation that the game industry is taking Android more seriously. The recent funding of game platform OpenFeint also proves the growing interest in gaming on Androids. The iPhone, however, will likely remain the dominant mobile game platform for some time.
