Nokia Releases MeeGo 1.1. Another Release Next Year

Just a few days back, we took a sneak peek at MeeGo Operating System, a merge of Intel’s mobile and Nokia’s Linux-base Maemo. An updated version of this operating system, i.e., MeeGo 1.1 got released today that include updates to the Core Operating System, In-vehicle, notebook and mobile handset packages. With the successful launch of this mobile platform, Nokia hopes to catch up to Apple/Android level, in terms of platform usability.

Some of the basic updates in this MeeGo 1.1 over the basic version include core operating system, voice calling, web browsing and connection management for the handset package, and speech recognition for the in-vehicle package. One can download the entire package from the MeeGo site. The Netbook release will work on Intel Atom netbooks while  handset’s one will work on Nokia N900.

An updated version of Software Development Kit; SDK 1.1. is also expected to release soon. Another updated version 1.2 of MeeGo can be seen in April 2011.

Nokia was losing a significant amount of market share to Apple and Android phones, but expects to gain the same with the launch of MeeGo operating system. The company also reported higher revenues for Q3 with their expectations to rise high in Entire European and American market.
