NEC, Intel and Microsoft – the Cloud’s Other Three-Way

At  the iExpo 2010 NEC will exhibit its latest product solutions, which have been developed through the trio-coalition between Intel, Microsoft and NEC. The strategic gathering of forces will focus on offering an integrated digital signage for the global market.

Almost a year ago now, Intel and Microsoft signed a contract for developing and promoting a validated platform for an intelligent signage application, but now NEC is joining, integrating the solutions and services, by offering content management and media distribution. The main features of the platform will include the Intel Core i5/i7 processor, running Windows Embedded Standard 7. NEC will bring the integration of the concept and an eventual collaboration in strategic cloud computing.

Barb Edson, the senior director of marketing for the Windows Embedded Business at Microsoft, commented that “the proposed strategic partnership between Microsoft, NEC, and Intel is another step forward for the digital signage industry by helping to ease the path for OEMs to quickly bring innovative products to market. With cloud computing services and the optimized digital signage platform built on Windows Embedded Standard 7, the future of digital signage is here today to empower retailers.”

Intel is actively acting as an interested developer, recently announcing the launch of Intel AppUp Developer Program, which will enhance the innovative collaboration between Moblin and Maemo. MeeGo is the resulted program- which is a powerful suite of tool, integrating 1.1 core OS and SDK, for mobile, netbook and PC chip architecture.

On the other side of the stage, Microsoft performed as a developer of Denali – a cover name of next generation MS SQL server, Critical Advantage, Community Technology Preview and Atlanta. All of above innovations made public at PASS summit are designed to help enterprise environments to deploy and improve the appliance-based solutions.

Another coalition has been active lately too.  VCE’s made a few announcements in the past week; upgraded support for Vblock products being among the most recent.
