Yahoo’s New Media Department Kicks Off with Letter from Ross Levinsohn

Ross Levinsohn is the new Yahoo EVP for the Americas Region, and the announcement has been marked by a post of Levinsohn himself on the corporate blog.  The new head of the media department highlights the success the company has had, considering Yahoo one of the world’s preeminent technology companies that operates the largest digital media, content and communications business in the world.

With regards to the future media goals of Yahoo, Levinsohn states that “it’s important to commit to each of you that one of my main goals is for the Americas team to be open and utterly approachable: I want to talk with you and understand your views of Yahoo! in order to make sure the Americas organization continues to win.  I welcome all new ideas and I will act quickly to implement the right ideas for our business.  Collectively we will continue to foster success for the company, each other, our partners and our customers with one goal – to deliver the absolute best consumer experience for Yahoo! users.”

In its efforts to engage customers, Yahoo has also launched the Yahoo! Contributor Network, a new platform for people to publish their creative content on Yahoo,  bringing contributions from more than 400,000 writers, photographers, and videographers to the Internet’s largest media destinations, including Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Sports, and even the Yahoo! homepage, among many others.

This new product offered by Yahoo plays a significant role in the current battle for the market share in the advertising industry. There are signs that the economy starts to settle in its shape which means increased spending in the advertising domain.  Yahoo is fighting for market share of the advertising industry on a global scale, with frenemies in Microsoft and Google (and AOL?) influencing Yahoo’s possibilities therein.
