More Teens and Kids Getting Online; Ready to Impact Tech Sector
Around 32.3 million moms are expected to go online at least once a month this year, as found through US Mom Internet users survey by eMarketer. The surveyor predicts approximately 20.2 million kids under 11 years of age to go online at least once a month in 2011. It is estimated that these figures will jump to 24.9 million kids, or almost 48 per cent of the total young population.
Mobile internet access is also becoming prominent, especially in families where parents use it frequently to find local information, pay bills or to purchase something online. These statistics clearly reflect the growing impact of younger demographics on the tech sector, as marketers that were barred from targeting children under 13 earlier are now planning to create some mobile apps useful in their education and marketing potential.
These are becoming become more accessible through technology – social networks, games, etc. And more brands are going to want to advertise to kids through technology. display ads, mobile marketing, and so forth.
Another instance of this growing impact of kids on tech sector is the immense popularity of Apple iPad among children that tops the Kids’ tech wishlist this holiday season. Over 31 percent of kids of 6- 12 years of age responded that Apple iPad is on their wishlist while 29 per cent want to have Apple iPod touch.
Lastly, do not forget to look at our coverage related to the teen metrics in virtual world. A series of polls were conducted that engaged 47,000 teens in its first round from over 33 countries. It lead to the launch of Habbometer, to learn about the teenagers’ preferences surrounding virtual goods, behavioral patterns and interactions.
The bottom line is that earlier these were only men and women who were the demographic targets for the tech marketers, but now the kids are also on the list, bringing the tech sector in line with historic marketing expansion.
