Top Traffic for Facebook in UK, Passing Google for First Time

The competition between Google and Facebook envisaged a new controversy, as Hotwise indicated that during Christmas Day, the social networking site overcame the search engine in UK’s internet users. According to a Hitwise report, while Google.co.uk was accessed by 9.77%, Facebook was preferred by 10.5% people to share their Christmas wishes and thoughts. The difference is significant as Google has a greater market share in UK (over 90%), while in U.S.A. it is almost 70%.

It is a well kwon fact that social networking is enjoyed as much as in U.S.A. as in UK, where almost half of the internet users are active in this sphere.

The rivalry between Facebook and its top competitors seems to be secluded as the social networking site is increasing in popularity at an exponential speed. Whereas, Microsoft and Google websites are still an unconquered redoubt, Facebook gains territory in the mined field on internet traffic by reaching the second place in the world for video content websites.

In a counter-attack, Google expressed its concern and defensive strategy by blocking ‘import and export information, including contacts, quickly and easily” from websites which do not share the Contact API method mutually. As a reply, Facebook asks new users to download their contacts into the computer before importing them into the social networking interface. The winning point for Facebook was left uncommented by Google.
