Dell Inks Agreement to Acquire SecureWorks
As part of its ongoing plan to return to its former glory, Dell today announced its plans to acquire SecureWorks Inc., an information-security service provider. With Securework’s penetration across a wide array of industries, which includes Global 500 companies, mid-sized businesses, financial services, utilities, healthcare, retail and manufacturing, the deal entails an expansion of Dell’s IT-as-a-Service offerings, as well as the enhancement of its information security expertise. SecureWorks is reputed to provide the kind of security that reduces risks while improving regulatory compliance and cutting down IT security-managing expenses.
“Dell’s global scale and relationships with clients provides a tremendous opportunity to rapidly expand SecureWorks’ business,” states Michael Cote, CEO and Chairman of SecureWorks. “With Dell’s commitment to our clients, our team and our market, I am confident that SecureWorks will flourish as part of the Dell Services organization and that our clients will continue to be well-served and well-protected by the services on which they rely.”
Aside from the scalability of SecureWork’s threat management platform and its compatibility with many client environments, the company also helps customers with problems brought about by what seemed like an endless influx of IT threats, using its Counter Threat Management Team. The company overlooks 13 billion security events and spots 30,000 malware on a daily basis, as well as handling very critical transactions for 1,500 banks and credit unions, amounting to trillions of dollars worth of financial assets.
“The frequency and sophistication of attacks on technology infrastructure and malicious attempts to access data, requires reliable, capable and innovative information security,” said Peter Altabef, President, Dell Services.
“SecureWorks is a recognized industry leader in information security services and its offerings and expertise will immediately enhance our solutions portfolio. We look forward to welcoming SecureWorks team members – who bring their passion and dedication to serving clients with best-in-class security services – to Dell and our clients.”
Secureworks’ acquisition expands Dell’s enterprise-class IT-as-a-Service offerings and enhances its being a Managed Security Services Provider (MSSP). It will fuel efficiency and eliminate much of the hassle in IT infrastructure mmanagement. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed but the deal is expected to lock in early 2011.
In the mean time, Secureworks’ existing operation will continue while Dell proceeds to making more investment in the IT security industry. One of Dell’s prior acquisitions this past year was Compellent, and it craves for more in order to expand its storage and data centers. And it’s not just Dell that’s looking to broaden this path. More and more companies with cloud services are turning to securities, as demand grows in this area, including HP, though Dell in particular is finding its way back into this market for its growth potential.
