GeekBeat.TV Reviews Powermat at CES 2011
Powermat has been working hard at bringing us wireless/plugless charging for our phones and other mobile devices. In a lot of cases, it’s hard to remember to plug our phones into the socket to make sure that they’re getting their much needed idle-time charging—that and all the wall warts that we need to truck along with us every time we move from place to place.
With this spaghetti-mess of wires and wall warts hemming us in from every angle, Powermat to the rescue, and Cali Lewis from GeekBeat.TV brings us to the good news,
Is your house a mass of tangled charger cables? Powermat wants to introduce you to the world of inductive charging, and they’re making it pretty attractive. Their new charger back for devices is only 0.9 millimeters thick and they’re even going to be putting charging tables in airports!
Not only has the company managed to get their charger device down to its thinnest ever 9mm there’s also a number of width sizes from those that’ll support one device to a pad that’ll allow for multiple to sit on it. In fact, it seems like an entire induction surface (to strap onto a coffee table or similar.) The result would be freedom from wires and the ability to get our devices charged by just dropping them off on the table while we watch TV and go about our business. In this way, we’d free ourselves to not worry about plugging and un-plugging everything.
Mark Hopkins, SiliconANGLE’s High Overlord of Content as I call him, brought up a very good point about how Tesla would be proud. As a scientist, Nikola Tesla brought up a lot of different inventions and innovative thinking that would help deliver free energy and “freed” energy to the population. In fact, numerous of his ideas edged towards empowering individuals on a personal level to interact with the world with less tethers and Powermat does that.
