Microsoft Cloud Computing from the Automakers Perspective

A back-patting blog post released by Microsoft today profiles the company’s use of cloud services to help small businesses in Detroit, notably the auto making industry. Detroit’s car industry had faltered significantly from its early days of glory, and things have seemingly gotten worse with massive bailouts and a downturned economy.  Microsoft is hoping the cloud may just assist in restoring the industry’s momentum, which is certainly a strategy many enterprises have considered over the past year and beyond.

“The cloud creates opportunities for new lines of business, new IT services, new ways of going to market and – ultimately – new employment.”

In addition, the blog post also details that over 35 percent of ITDMs who participated in a company commissioned survey are implementing or plan to implement cloud solutions in their organizations within a year. Moreover, Microsoft also described the general benefits of the cloud to just about every enterprise utilizing it with an emphasis on the automaker’s perspective.

That list included the elimination of unnecessary IT operations, software deployment speed and scalability. The additional bulletins described the cost-effectiveness of outsourcing the cloud infrastructure, the high availability of the cloud and security, which is a very important element for the Big Three to consider in case they want to avoid intellectual property theft, or another Honda incident.

The cloud is steadily on the rise, and as more and more industries begin to embrace the technology, the more innovations can be expected further down the road.
