Talking Mobile: Nuance Launches Dragon SDK for Android, iOS.
As part of its Mobile Developer Program, Nuance, a company that makes voice recognition technology, announced the opening of Dragon Mobile SDK for iOS 4.0, as well as Android 2.1 and up, with its latest self-service website. It is built around Dragon speech conversion technologies which includes Dragon Dictation, Dragon Search, and its trusted Vocalizer text-to-speech (TTS) — so developers can make mobile apps that turn text into speech and vice versa. The service will be available for free for a period of 90 days, and after such time, developers can choose a pricing option that will cater their needs.
The Dragon Mobile SDK is available in several languages, including US and UK English, European Spanish, European French, German, Italian and Japanese. Expect support for more languages throughout the year. Aside from the ease of integrating voice recognition into their apps, developers will also have access to online forums for additional support, as well as a variety of code samples and full documentation. Moreover, its TTS capabilities is available in over 35 languages. From their blog:

Amazon, Ask for iPhone, Merriam-Webster and Dictionary are few of the many apps that have utilized Dragon Mobile SDK voice technology in the past.
“Integrating Nuance’s intuitive voice recognition brought a new level of user interaction to our Ask for iPhone question and answer service. Finding information is incredibly easy when you can simply speak a question versus having to type it in,” said Tony Gentile, senior vice president, products, Ask.com US.
Speech/text technology is booming right now. Even Google is really looking to stay ahead on this front as they released a couple Google Voice updates in the past month.
