Today electronics giant Fujitso announced it’s expanding its reach further into the cloud, and partnering up with IP cores and DPUs maker Tensilica. The two companies signed a multi-year corporate license to Tensilica’s audio, baseband DSP (digital signal processor) and dataplane processor units (DPUs).
“In the development of our next-generation high-performance mobile terminals, we realized the great performance, power and time-to-market benefits of Tensilica’s technology,” stated Minoru Sakata, president, Mobile Phones Unit, Fujitsu Limited. “This is why we have decided to expand its use throughout our product lines.”
The contract itself also gives every Fujitso division access to Tensilica IP cores. These, along with the Tensilica DPUs which can reportedly deliver up to 100 x performances when optimized with Tensilica’s design tools are a great asset to build on throughout Fujitsu’s mobile expansion.
The Tensilica Fujitso partnership is a landmark in the latter’s accelerating influence in the cloud. Fujitsu is working towards commanding a solid global presence, which is exactly why partnerships are so important for Fujitso at this stage. That includes an earlier team-up with cloud service provider Egenera, which added PAN Manager Software support for Fujitsu blade servers.
